Many fans of anime and/or videogames from Japan collect 'UFO Catchers'. 'UFO Catcher' is the term used to refer to a prize that comes out of a machine in stores and aracdes around Japan. The prizes are sealed in a plastic capsule and the device that picks up the prizes usually looks like a space ship. So the prizes are known as UFO Catchers. Most UFO Catchers are plush dolls, they can technically be other types of toys, but are mostly stuffed toys.

UFO Catcher styled dolls are designed to look like popular characters from anime, video games, movies, even celebrities! However, traditionaly UFO Catcher dolls recreate these characters into cuter, stockier versions known as 'chibi' or 'super deformed' style. The heads and eyes will be much bigger than the character usually has and the body and limbs will be much smaller. These types of dolls are extremely popular and sought after. For more info about UFO Catchers and examples of how they look, please cheack out www.ufocatcher.com.

I guess this isn't really a plushie, it's a BIG FAT AKAMARU PILLOW!!! XD (For those who don't know, Akamaru is from the Naruto series. He's Kiba's ninja puppy friend.) I made this for Staack. He loves Akamaru and chubby animals so I figured a pillow style Akamaru would suit him nicely. This thing is HUGE! He took 4 bags of stuffing just to fill him up. Please note that I realize the pillow doesn't represent Akamaru too well, but in order to make him a functional pillow he had to look a bit different. I didn't add that much to the top of his head because that would make too much to poke you in the face when you lay your head on him. Also he has to be wide or else he wouldn't be much of a pillow. ^^" By the looks of the last photo, Akamaru likes beer....

Akamaru! Akamaru again! He's HUGE!!!! We partied too hard...

These photos show my first 2 dolls, Anbu Kakashi from the anime, Naruto and my own character, The Purgatory Guide. I would have added more layers to P.G.'s hair, but I needed him in time for an art show and I was running low on time.

Kakashi, no mask Kakashi, with mask Here's the back

My own character, he doesn't have a name yet. My character from the back

These ones are of Steve Fox from the videogame, Tekken 4. I made him as present for my friend, Steffannee! Apparently Steve likes drinking tea with Kakashi.

These bottom photos show the stages of my dolls, plus one next to me so you can see how big they are.

Look how fat that head is! My doll has a fat head too...hah-hah.... unstuffed! eek! Clothes but no body! Get that stuffin' in there!

Why would anyone want to have a UFO Catcher made for them? For starters, there are many series that do not have UFO Catchers. Some UFO Catchers are extremely rare and expensive. (For example, the first UFO Catcher dolls from the game, Final Fantasy 7 are very sought after and are very expensive if found at all.) Some series may have ufo catchers, but they may not be very cute, may be low quality, or may come in small sizes only. For all these reasons, collectors will ask for a UFO Catcher to be made for them. For example, I'm a huge fan of the anime series, Naruto but my favorite character, Kakashi Hatake, only has very simple ufo catcher style dolls of him available in his standard outfit. I wanted a nicer plush doll, with better hair and in his rarely seen Anbu outfit, so I made my own version. I love having colectibles that no one else has and that are customized to my personal preferences. My Kakashi doll is nearly twice the size of the official 'deluxe' version and mine has a mask that can be pulled up and down. (Kakashi is always masked, so a mask that can be removed is pretty cool!) I figured I could offer my services to other people who also would enjoy having a customized UFO Catcher.

The UFO Catchers I have made are high quality. There are only a few differences between my versions and traditionals:

- My dolls are 17 inches tall! 0_0 That's twice the size of a standard UFO plushie(usually 5-7inches), more to hug! (I also have a new pattern for 24 inch tall plushies! I will have samples soon!)
- Multiple layered hair! Most UFO's only have one or two layers for bangs and maybe 2 for the rest of the hair. I include many, many, layers for a more detailed and authentic look of the character my doll is based on.
- Non-pill fleece! If you own any UFO plushies, you may notice that they sometimes get little ball-shaped lint on them. This is called 'pilling' and is very hard to get rid of. I only use non-pill fabrics so your plushie will look nice for years to come.
- Scotch Gard! This spray protects fabrics from getting stained and prevents moisture damage.

The only downside of my dolls is that I do not recommend giving them to young children under the age of 8. Some pieces can be pulled off and accidentally swallowed. My dolls are intended for collectors purposes, not really for play. If you really want a doll designed for a small child, I will be happy to make a child-safe version for you.

I only have a few conditions of what I will NOT do for my UFO plushies:

- I do not make my dolls any smaller than 17 inches. I can do larger, but not smaller. Smaller is just too difficult. I do have a pattern for 14 inches, but it takes longer to hand stitch some of the smaller parts. The 14 inch is the same price as the 17 inch, even though the 17 inch is more fabric, I save time but not needing to hand stitch any of them.
- My plushie's clothes are designed to stay on, they do not come off! I'll make exceptions for something like a hood, jacket, etc.
- I can make girls, but I do not put breasts on them. I feel that clevage takes away from the cute qualities of plush dolls.....plus it just looks creepy.
- I only have one standard shape for my plushies. If you want another shape, I can most likely create whatever shape/pose you have in mind. However, I will charge extra for the additional time I will spend creating a new pattern for your request.
- If you would like a plushie of an original character, I need at least 1 really good drawing, full body, so I can see what they look like. If you are unable to provide a drawing, I can use I really detailed description. However, in this case where I am not provided with a picture/drawing, I will have to sketch it out first. I need to create a sketch to show you first before I proceed, this way I can be certain that what I have in mind is the same character you have in mind. This sketch would add a little more money onto your total.
- I will not create a plush that feel is being intended for unpure purposes. If I feel that a doll is being requested for any devious purposes, I will refuse.

If you'd like a UFO Catcher style doll too, please refer to my 'Commission and Hiring Info' section or contact me at crizl@juno.com. The 'Commission and Hiring Info' section includes my commission schedule, pricing details and a list of materials I use for my dolls.
